IWU Baseball Comes from Behind to Topple Vikings, 16-10

CHICAGO, Ill. – For the fourth straight game, Illinois Wesleyan baseball came from behind to post a victory, topping North Park by a 16-10 score at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago on Wednesday, April 13.
 
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 15-10 overall and 7-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as the Titans scored in double figures for the fourth straight game and for the ninth time this season. The Vikings are 8-17 this season and 2-7 in the league.
 
IWU scored in six of the nine innings and trailed 9-8 after six innings before tacking on eight runs on six hits with two walks and a hit batsman in the top of the seventh.
 
In a 16-hit Titan attack, freshman leftfielder John Bosco had three hits while sophomore Tim Smyk, senior third baseman Matthew Mardis, sophomore third baseman Ryne Elvers and centerfielder Jacob Houghton each had two hits. Junior catcher Pat Mollo had a two-run home run and freshman Ben Manski had a two-RBI triple in the eight-run seventh inning and sophomore second baseman Gino Cavalieri extended his hitting streak to eight games with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
 
Junior righthander Louis Acklin (1-0), the third of four IWU hurlers, was the winning pitcher as he went 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three.
 
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan plays a CCIW doubleheader at North Central on Saturday. First game time is 12 p.m. Saturday in Naperville.
