ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team fell to conference opponent Elmhurst College on Saturday, Dec. 10 by a final score of 86-80. Junior
Molly McGraw led the team with 25 points and six rebounds, but shot just 10-of-28 from the floor.
With the loss, IWU falls to 4-4 (1-1 CCIW) on the season, while Elmhurst improves to 7-2 (1-2 CCIW) in 2016-17.
Senior
Rebekah Ehresman followed McGraw with 18 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting. Ehresman was close to a double-double with eight assists on the afternoon alongside five steals. No other Titans scored in double-digits.
Free-throws played a major role in the outcome of Saturdays game, with the Titans taking just 11 foul shots. Elmhurst on the other hand shot 19-of-25 from the line and outscored the Titans 19-7 on shots from the charity stripe. As a team, the Bluejays committed nine fouls to 21 for the Titans.
The Titans held a distinct advantage in points off turnovers, scoring 29 points of 22 takeaways compared to 14 for the Bluejays.Â
Defensively the Titans held Elmhurst without a basket for the final 4:11 of regulation. However due to free-throws, teams tied 10-10 during the remaining four minutes of action.
