Final Quarter Woes Give IWU Women 66-55 Loss

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team was outscored by 11 in the final quarter and lost a 66-55 decision to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Shirk Center.

The Titans slippped to 1-2 with their second straight loss while the Warhawks improved to 4-0.

The game featured six ties, including 44-44 at the end of three quarters. But the Warhawks went on a 9-0 run at the start of the fourth period to take a 53-44 advantage and IWU never got closer than six (59-53) after that.

Illinois Wesleyan was led by the 15 points of senior Gabrielle Holness, the only player in double figures, while junior Rebekah Ehresman had a game-high nine rebounds with five assists.

The Titans suffered a key loss in the first half when junior Molly McGraw, the team's leading scorer at 17.0 points per game, went down with what head coach Mia Smith said appears to be a high ankle sprain.
McGraw scored three points and played only 11 minutes in the first half but did not see action in the second half. Smith was unsure how long McGraw will be out.

Illinois Wesleyan shot .290 for the game (20 of 69) from the field and connected on six of 22 (.273) from 3-point range while making nine of 16 free throws (.563).

Wis.-Whitewater went 12 of 16 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter and 23 of 28 overall (.821). The Warhawks also made .476 percent of their field goal attempts (20 of 42).

With 14 points each, Malia Smith and Andrea Meinert led the Warhawks, who committed 29 turnovers to IWU's 19.
