KENOSHA, Wis. – The Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team was defeated by No. 14-ranked Carthage College on Saturday, Oct. 22 by a final score of 1-0. IWU was held to four shots throughout the contest and two on goal.
With a loss the Titans fall to 7-7-1, 3-3 CCIW while Carthage stays undefeated in the conference at 6-0 and 14-3 overall.
IWU was held without a shot in the first half while mustering up four total shots in the second. Carthage tested the Titans early and often with seven shots on goal in the first half and six in the second.
Senior
Connor Allen and sophomore
Ben Nielsen registered the Titans lone goal opportunities of the evening.
Giles Phillips scored the lone goal of the game for either side, finding the back of the net in the 49 minute off a throw in.
Sophomore
Eddie Sanchez made five saves in his 28 minutes of work in goal during the first half. Freshman
Alex Ruckstaetter set a new career-high in saves made, making eight in 62 minutes of action.
What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan is set to take on Augustana College on Wednesday, Oct. 26 needing to win out in order to secure their spot in the conference tournament. Augustana currently sits at 4-11-1 with a record of 0-5-1 in the CCIW. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
