WAVERLY, Iowa – Despite being tied 1-1 at halftime, the Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team gave up a goal in the 59th minute before eventually losing at Wartburg 2-1 on Saturday, Sept. 19.
IWU is now 2-3-1 overall on the season while the Knights picked up their third victory of the season to improve to 3-2-1.
After giving up a goal to Wartburg's Connor Johnson in the 23rd minute (22:04), IWU would respond with an equalizer in the 41st minute (40:12) coming from
Eric Gilbert for his second goal of the season.
With the score knotted at one in the 59th minute, Johnson would again find the back of the net, this time coming off a free kick to put the Knights up 2-1 before holding on for the eventual win.
Goalkeepers Eric Eklin and
Craig Kym both played one half, with Eklin making four saves.
