Softball Knocked Out of NCAA Tournament With Losses

2015 Bloomington, Ill., Regional Web Site

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan softball team saw its 2015 campaign come to a close in the NCAA Division III Bloomington, Ill. regional with a pair of losses on Saturday, May 9, at IWU Field. IWU lost 1-0 in eight innings to Alma before being eliminated 7-4 against Anderson.

IWU finishes the season with a 36-10 record and won both the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular-season and tournament championships.

In the game against Alma that started on Friday but was delayed after an inning and a half by rain, IWU was limited to only two hits, both by junior catcher Danielle Smith, and left four baserunners. Alma's Morgan Stratton struck out eight Titans in the two-hit shutout.

Junior Jenna Noland (9-3) took the loss for Illinois Wesleyan, pitching all eight innings and giving up a single run on three hits while striking out nine batters.

Facing elimination in game two, IWU put up a run in the top of the second inning before Anderson responded with seven-run bottom of the second inning capped by a grand-slam by Nichole Frazier over the center field wall. The Titans added a run in the third and see a rally fall short in the top of the seventh after putting up two runs off a Sam Gudat homer that scored Sarah Platt.

Senior lefthander Chloe Montgomery (19-4) took the loss in the circle, going just 1 1/3 innings and allowing five runs on four hits. Freshman Mackenzie Marquis allowed two runs on five hits with three walks and a strikeout.
