ROCK ISLAND, Ill. –Leading 7-5 after three quarters of play, the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team was outscored 5-2 in the final period en route to a 10-9 loss at the hands of Augustana in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin semifinal at Thorson-Lucken Field on Wednesday, April 29th.
The Titans end the season at 11-7 overall while the Vikings improved to 13-4 and advance to Saturday's CCIW championship match.
IWU trailed 3-2 after the first 15 minutes of play before rallying to take an 4-3 halftime lead over the Vikings. The Titans would outscore Augustana 3-2 in the third period to extend their lead to 7-5 heading into the final frame. The Vikings would score a flurry of three goals in the final 1:14 of action including the game-winner with 18 seconds left to play.
Sophomore
Evan Mok-Lamme led IWU with four goals scored on four shots while
James Maibuecher (3) and
Michael Julius (2) scored the other Titan goals.
Augustana held a 37-22 advantage in shots over the Titans in addition to a 30-22 advantage in ground balls. IWU was guilty of 19 turnovers while the Vikings had 10 turnovers of their own.
Goalie
Steven Laduzinsky had 14 saves in the game playing all 60 minutes between the pipes.
