Softball Sweeps Twin Bill vs. Bluejays

Bloomington, Ill. – The No. 11-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team completed a doubleheader sweep over College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Elmhurst with a 4-0 win in game one before taking a 6-1 victory in the night cap.

IWU is now 31-7 and 10-2 in the CCIW while Elmhurst fell to 19-17 and 4-10 in the conference.

Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, junior designated hitter Danielle Smith delivered the big hit for the Titans in game one smacking a two-run home run over the left field wall in the bottom of the third to give IWU a 3-0 lead.

IWU would add a single run in the sixth off a Hannah Bowen single that brought home pitcher Chloe Montgomery, which would be more than enough run support for the Marengo, Ill. native.

Montgomery went the distance on the mound to improve to 16-3 overall, scattering four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Freshman Mackenzie Marquis (8-1) got the nod in game two, hurling a complete game giving up one run on four hits while issuing five walks and striking out six.

The Titans put up two runs in each of the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead after three innings thanks in part to nine hits. Laura Bonds went three-for-four at the plate with all three hits coming as singles. Junior shortstop Sam Gudat led off the game with a double down the left field line and went two-for-four with two RBI's and two runs scored.

What's Next?
IWU closes out regular season play with a home doubleheader against Wheaton tomorrow at IWU field starting at 3 p.m. The Titans, who have already clinched a spot in the CCIW tournament, can capture either a shared regular-season conference title with a split vs. the Thunder or an outright regular-season title with a sweep.
