Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- Four DePauw unearned runs led to a 4-2 loss in game one before the No. 8-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team rallied to defeat the Tigers 7-4 in game two of a non-conference doubleheader at the IWU Field on Tuesday, April 14.
Illinois Wesleyan is now 24-6 while DePauw sits at 18-11.
IWU outhit the Tigers 6-4 as junior second baseman 
Mary Rankin had a double and a triple and junior shortstop 
Sam Gudat also had two hits. The Titans would leave runners in scoring position in five of the seven innings, but could not come up with a hit when needed most. 
Senior 
Chloe Montgomery (14-2) took the loss, going all seven innings and striking out five while allowing four hits and walking one.
IWU gave up three first-inning runs to the Tigers to put themselves in an early hole despite only one of the three runs being an earned run. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the third, The Titans scored two runs to knot the score at three when 
Danielle Smith launched a two-run home run over the left field fence. Ill. Wesleyan would add two more runs in the fifth before thanks in part to a Gudat bases-loaded single to the pitcher and wild pitch that scored freshman 
Stephanie Prentice. DePauw would cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the sixth before IWU would plate two insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach.
 Freshman hurler 
Mackenzie Marquis improved to 6-1 on the season, throwing five and two-third innings of relief and allowing only one run on four hits. Junior 
Jenna Noland started the game on the mound for Titans, going one and one-third innings and giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits. 
What's Next?The Titans resume College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with a doubleheader at home against North Central at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18.
