Titans Remain Perfect at Home With 20-3 Victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team scored the opening three goals and and cruised to a 20-3 victory over Cornell College at IWU's Tucci Stadium on Monday, March 23.

The Titans improved to 5-4 this season and a perfect 3-0 at Tucci Stadium while the Rams slipped to 1-4.

IWU never trailed, leading 3-2 after the first period and 7-2 at intermission. After the Rams cut the Titan lead to 3-2 with 3:30 left in the first quarter, IWU went on a 14-0 run that spanned over two quarters to take a commanding 17-2 lead. The Titans outscored the Rams 6-0 in the third period before scoring sixth fourth quarter goals compared to one for Cornell. 


Illinois Wesleyan got four goals and an assist from both Colin Daly and Tim Smith while Nick Winter and Alex Lambert each had three goals. Winter had a game-high six assists and Lambert had one.

Jacob Perry and James Maibuecher each had two goals while Evan Mok-Lamme and Michael Julius rounded out the Titan scoring attack with one goal apiece. 

IWU collected 45 ground balls to 29 for Cornell and the Titans won 17 of 26 faceoffs. The Titans outshot the Rams 39-29 and were guilty of 19 turnovers compared to 26 for Cornell. 

Steven Laduzinsky (52 minutes, four saves) and Jordan Staley (eight minutes, seven saves) both saw time in goal for the Titans.

What's Next?
The Titans hit the road for a 3 p.m. (ET) match at Hope College in Holland, Mich. on Sat. March 28. The Flying Dutch are 2-4 heading into a home contest against DePauw on Wednesday night.
