BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Freshman
Molly McGraw poured in a career-high 26 points but the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team lost at home to Elmhurst, 82-75, on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Illinois Wesleyan's season ends with a 10-15 record (4-10 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) while Elmhurst will play next weekend in the CCIW tournament with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-5 CCIW ledger.
Elmhurst's Fiona McMahon scored 37 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. The 37 points is the second highest single-game scoring effort at the Shirk Center, behind 39 from IWU's Sara Seebruch vs. North Central on Jan. 16, 1999.
The Titans led only 1:43 of the game and last held a 3-2 edge before the Bluejays took the lead to stay, building up as much as a 19-point lead at 39-20 with 2:12 left before half. Elmhurst took a 41-24 edge into the locker room at intermission.
In the second half, IWU snipped the lead down to two at 61-59 with 7:24 to play but a 12-4 run staked Elmhurst to a 73-63 lead with 4:05 left and they kept the lead to double figures most of the rest of the contest.
The Titans were outrebounded 43-28 and Elmhurst committed 25 turnovers compared to 14 for Illinois Wesleyan.
