IWU Men Lose 2015 Lacrosse Opener

AURORA, Ill. - Sophomore Michael Julius scored five goals but the Illinois Wesleyan men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-10 loss to Aurora in the 2015 season opener for both teams at Vago Field in Aurora, Ill., on Friday, Feb. 20.

In a game played in bitter cold and windy conditions, Aurora had 56 total shots with 36 of them on goal compared to 36 total shots and 20 on goal for the Titans.

In addition to Julius, freshmen Nick Winter and James Maibuecher each tallied two goals and sophomore Evan Mok-Lamme had one goal while sophomore Tim Smith provided an assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Steven Laduzinsky played the first half and allowed five goals while making 17 saves and freshman Reagan Penner allowed 11 goals with six saves in the final period.

The Spartans picked up 49 groundballs to 22 for the Titans and Aurora won 21 of the 30 faceoffs.

Illinois Wesleyan opens their home season with a 7 p.m. match Wednesday, Feb. 25 against DePauw.
