Titans Cruise To Season Opening Win, 86-57

ALBION, Mich. – Four Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball players reached double figures as the Titans cruised to an 86-57 season-opening win over Oberlin College in the Albion College Tip-Off Tournament at Kresge Gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 20.

Illinois Wesleyan (1-0) won their season opener for the third straight year and beat the Yeowomen (2-1) in the first-ever meeting between the two squads.

The Titans trailed for only 52 seconds in the entire game and led 18-14 after one quarter of action innthe first game played under the new four quarter set-up. A 25-point second quarter extended the Illinois Wesleyan lead to 42-29 at the end of the half before taking a 26 point lead (65-39) after 30 minutes of action. Illinois Wesleyan's biggest lead of the game would come at the 6:48 mark in the final stanza as junior Gabrielle Holness knocked down a free throw to give the Titans a 77-47 lead. The fourth quarter never saw Illinois Wesleyan lead by less than 26 before eventually winning 84-57.

Sophomore Molly McGraw led all players with 18 points while freshman Ashley Schneider contributed 12 points off the bench. Sophomore Rebekah Ehresman added 11 points of her own while freshman Maddie Merritt went four-of-four from the charity stripe en route to a 10 point effort.

IWU outrebounded 41-33 and forced Oberlin into 30 turnovers while only committing 15 of their own.  Fifty of Illinois Wesleyan's 86 points were scored in the paint as the Titans shot .486 percent from the field (36-74).

What's Next?
Illinois Wesleyan will look to run their record to 2-0 when they take on host Albion College in the Albion College Tip-Off Tournament at 2 p.m. CT.
