Titan Women's Soccer Posts 7-0 Win in NCAA First Round

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 7-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team opened with a 7-0 win over Westminster (Mo.) in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Division III tournament at Neis Field on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The Titans set a school record for wins in a season, improving to 19-2-0 and eclipsing the total of 18 set in 2015, and will face Pomona-Pitzer, a 3-0 winner over Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the other first round match, at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 at Neis Field.
Westminster bowed out with a record of 10-7-2.

IWU got on the board at 10:09 with a goal by senior Tess Bottorff, her 10th of the year, on an assist from Emily Snider, and the Titans tacked on two more goals before halftime as junior Alison Seger scored her seventh of the season on an assist from Bottorff and freshman Nathalie Orozco scored on a header with a helper from Cassandra Leishman.

Junior Amanda Kaiser scored the Titans' fourth and fifth goals with assists from senior Sydney Fox at 62:41 and Sarah Trach at 67:46.
Less than a minute later, at 68:26, junior Skyler Tomko recorded her 10th goal of the year to stake IWu to a 6-0 lead and freshman Erin Roegner kicked one in the net for her first goal of the season at 74:01 to cap the scoring.

The Titans outshot the Blue Jays, 29-2, and freshman keeper Katie Denney made one save.

NOTES: Making its third straight and eighth overall NCAA Division III tournament appearance, the Titans have an 8-5-3 record in postseason play ... The Titans have outscored opponents 61-8 this season ... The winner of the IWU/Pomona-Pitzer match will play Wisconsin-Whitewater (18-4-0) next weekend at a sectional site to be announced late Sunday or Monday. The Warhawks defeated Wheaton, 2-0, on Saturday to win a regional they hosted ... Other teams feeding into that sectional will be the winners of the Sunday matches between Washington U. (17-2-0) vs. Dennison (16-4-0) and Puget Sound (17-0-4) at Wartburg (15-4-2).
