IWU Women's Basketball Unable to Put Away Big Blue

DECATUR, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but was unable to secure their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win in an 85-80 loss at Millikin on Wednesday, Jan. 14. 

The loss drops the Titans to 6-9 and 0-4 in the CCIW, losing six consecutive games for the first time since the 1991-92 season. Millikin evened their CCIW record to 2-2 with the win, improving to 11-4 overall. 

Illinois Wesleyan took a 45-36 lead into the locker room at halftime, thanks in part to 13 points and seven rebounds from senior Kasey Reaber. The Titans forced the Big Blue into 14 first half turnovers and were only outrebounded 21-17 in the first half. 
 
Millikin slowly chipped away at the IWU lead, cutting the deficit to 57-55 with 13:13 left in the game before the Titans went on a 8-2 run to lead  65-58. The Big Blue outscored IWU 30-18 in the final 10 minutes of the game, using foul trouble by Reaber to eventually take the lead with 5:08 left in the game. IWU cut the Big Blue lead to one with 34 seconds left in the game, but Millikin hit free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. 
 
Millikin
 had a 48-26 rebounding edge in the game, which helped offset their 29 turnovers resulting in 24 Titan points. IWU scored 13 second chance points, compared to 12 for the Big Blue.

The Titans return to the Shirk Center to host North Park on Sat. Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. The Vikings handed Wheaton their first loss of the season, winning 62-48 on Wednesday night.
