Second Half Sends Titans to 69-62 Loss

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team let a double-digit lead slip away in a 69-62 loss to Carthage at the Shirk Center on Saturday, Jan. 10.
 
The Titans lost for the fifth straight time and slipped to 6-8 overall and 0-3 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Lady reds improved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW. It is the first five-game losing streak at IWU since the 1992-93 season.
 
Illinois Wesleyan trailed by six at 21-15 with 8:30 to play in the first half before tying the game at 26-26 with 4:04 to go. The Titans shut out the Lady Reds, 12-0, the remainder of the half to take a 38-26 lead into the locker room.
 
But Carthage connected on eight 3-point field goals in the second half and battled back to tie the game at 58-58 (the eighth tie of the contest) with 5:55 to play and went on to outscore IWU 11-4 down the stretch to claim the victory. There were seven lead changes in the game.
 
Carthage had a 32-26 rebounding edge in the game, which helped offset their 26 turnovers. IWU was guilty of 15 turnovers.
