BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - D. Paul Miller of Normal, Ill., a professor at Illinois Wesleyan University from 1960 to 1982, captured six gold medals in his 95-99 age group in last Sunday's Illinois Senior Olympics in Springfield.
The 97-year-old Miller was the head of IWU's Sociology and Anthropology department from 1960 to 1974. In 2013, Miller won seven gold medals and one bronze in the National Senior Olympics at Cleveland, Ohio, setting three national records for his age group (95-99).
His winning efforts last weekend included the 50 meter dash (14.9 seconds), 100 meter dash (30.2 seconds), 200 (1:18.0), standing broad jump (3 feet-7 inches), long jump (4 feet-9 inches) and discus (35 feet-5 inches). Miller broke his own state records in both the discus and long jump.
