#21 IWU Football Goes to 2-0 With Win at Albion

ALBION, Mich . - No. 21-ranked Illinois Wesleyan took advantage of five Albion turnovers and claimed a 35-28 win on the road against the Albion Britons at Sprankle Sprandle Stadium in Albion, Mich., on Saturday, Sept. 13.

In the 1,000th game in Illinois Wesleyan football history, the Titans improved to 2-0 this season while the Britons are 0-2. It is the 22nd straight win in September games for IWU.

The Britons amassed 477 yards of total offense to 364 for Illinois Wesleyan and had 35 first downs to 22 for IWU, but the Britons had three interceptions, two made by Titan senior Tyrell Bolden, and lost two fumbles, one of which was returned for an 88-yard touchdown by junior Will James to stake the Titans to a 35-21 lead with 9:52 to play in the game.

Freshman quarterback Jack Warner completed 19 of 28 attempts for 305 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 19 yards on nine carries.

After going for over 100 yards in the season opener, junior Anfernee Roberts was limited to a team-high 22 yards on 17 carries and had a 3-yard TD run.

Junior Artie Checchin had five receptions, including TD catches of 18 yards and 26 yards, with a total of 74 yards while junior wide receiver Fernando Lozano led the Titans with 84 receiving yards on five grabs.

Sophomore linebacker Sean Garvey paced the IWU defense with 12 total tackles while sophomore linebacker Luke Roth made 11 and senior defensive back Niko Garcia contributed seven. Senior defensive end John Worley had six tackles with two quarterback sacks totaling -16 yards and forced a fumble.
