BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Sophomore Jenna Noland struck out 16 batters as the Illinois Wesleyan softball team defeated Lake Forest, 5-1, in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Regional at IWU Field in Bloomington on Friday, May 9.

The Titans have won a school-record 19 straight games, improved to 38-5 and will play at 11 a.m. on Saturday (May 10) against Anderson (30-7). The Ravens scored five in their last at bat, including a game-winning grand slam by Nichole Frazier to get a 9-5 win over Fontbonne earlier Friday.
Fontbonne (34-6) will play Lake Forest (26-9) at 1:30 on Saturday in an elimination game and the first game loser will play the second game winner at 4 p.m. in the other elimination game.

Noland's 16 strikeouts is second best in an IWU game as the record of 17 is held by Molly McCready against Monmouth on March 28, 2012. In improving to 12-3, she scatteretd three hits and the lone run she allowed was a home run by Alex Hemmer in the seventh inning.

The Titans, who got eight hits scored single runs in the first, third and fourth and tacked on two more in the fifth. Sophomore Kyley McKeown had two hits while senior designated player Allie Riordan had two runs batted in. Junior Hannah Bowen had a triple, scored a run and drove in a run.

NOTES: Historically, IWU teams now have a 24-24 record (.500 winning percentage) in their 13th NCAA appearance ... The 38 wins for this year's team is second most in an IWU season with the record being 39 wins in both 2001 (39-14) and 2012 (39-8) ... Noland's 16 strikeouts gives the team pitching staff 347 strikeouts this season, eclipsing the old season record of 338 (2010) ... Anderson was the last team to beat Illinois Wesleyan back on April 12. The Ravens scored three in the bottom of the eighth inning to win, 6-5.
