Box Score 2 GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Seniors
Sara Rogers and
Amanda Fazzari each had six runs batted in on the day to help the No. 12-ranked Illinois Wesleyan to a doubleheader sweep at DePauw in Greencastle, Ind., on Sunday, April 27.
The Titans won game one, 7-4 and took game two by a 9-5 score to improve to 34-5 this season. DePauw slipped to 23-17.
In game one, IWU trailed 4-1 going into its last at bat when Fazzari delivered a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4 after
Cassidy Tarpey walked and
Katie Caulfield reached on a fielder's choice. After
Victoria Whitaker reached on a single and
Kyley McKeown was hit by a pitch, Rogers hit another three-run homer to put the Titans ahead 7-4.
In the opener, senior
Molly McCready (19-2) went the distance and allowed four runs on 10 hits with no walks and struck out seven. She has 595 career strikeouts, trailing only the record of 600 by Christy Engel (2007-10).
Two big innings helped IWU to the win in game two with five runs in the third and four more in the seventh.
Hannah Bowen had three hits in the game while Rogers,
Sarah Platt and McKeown all had two hits with Rogers and Fazzari providing three runs batted in. Fazzari's came on a bases-loaded double in the third.
Starting pitcher
Chloe Montgomery (5-0) had the complete game win, allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
What's Next?No. 1-seed Illinois Wesleyan will play No. 4-seed Carthage at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at IWU Field in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament. The first game of the day will have No. 2-seed Augustana against No. 3-seed North Central at 12 p.m.
