Titan Softball Splits on Opening Day

ORLANDO, Fla. - Under new head coach Kat McCreery, the Illinois Wesleyan softball team opened with a split on the first day of the season, topping Husson 7-0 after losing to Montclair State 2-0 on Sunday, March 9 in Orlando, Fla.

In game one, senior Molly McCready allowed only two hits and struck out 13 while walking six in a losing effort. The No. 2-ranked Montclair State team scored one in the second and added one more in the seventh.

Alex Hill was the winning pitcher for the Red Hawks as she struck out 15 and allowed only two hits, both to Titan senior Allie Riordan, in the shutout.

In the nighcap, IWU sophomore Jenna Noland struck out 14 with no walks and allowed just three hits in the seven-inning shutout.

Illinois Wesleyan rapped out nine hits with three coming from Hannah Bowen on a double and two singles. She also scored a pair of runs. Sara Rogers, who scored three runs, Sara Daley and  Danielle Burge all had doubles and Riordan had a triple. Burge had two RBI while Riordan, Rogers and Amanda Fazzari each had one.

The Ttans scored once in the first and second, added three in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Illinois Wesleyan will play Muskingum at 11 a.m. ET and Beloit at 1 p.m. ET on Monday, March 10, as the Rebel Spring Games trip continues in Orlando.
