Softball Extends Win Streak to Five in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team exploded for 10 runs in a 10-4 win over Hiram and got a two-hitter from Molly McCready in a 3-1 win over Geneva in contests in the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday, March 11.

The Titans have won five straight to improve to 5-1 while Hiram is 2-1 and Geneva fell to 0-4.

In the opener, IWU broke open a 1-1 game with eight runs after two were out in the bottom of the fourth.

Danielle Burge led off with a single and was at third with two outs when Kyley McKeown doubled to score Burge. Sara Rogers then doubled to bring in McKeown and Hannah Bowen singled to put runners at first and third. Senior Allie Riordan doubled to center to chase home two runner to put IWU ahead 5-1.
Sara Daley and first baseman Sarah Platt walked to load the bases, setting up a two-run double from Burge. Platt scored on a passed ball and senior Victoria Whitaker doubled to bring in Burge to give the Titans a 9-1 lead.

Sophomore Jenna Noland (3-0) allowed five hits and three earned runs, walking one and striking out seven in the complete game. Riordan had three hits and three runs batted in and Burge had two hits, including one of the team's seven doubles, and two RBI.

McCready (2-1) was touched for one unearned run while walking one and striking out nine.

The Titans got unearned runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings, taking advantage of three Geneva errors. Whitaker had three hits and Riordan had two more hits with two RBI.

Illinois Wesleyan will play Simpson at 9 a.m. ET on Thursday (March 13) and then meets SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m. ET, also on Thursday
