Softball Wins 3-2 Twice on Day 2 in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Illinois Wesleyan softball team extended its win streak to three with a pair of 3-2 wins in the Rebel Spring Games Monday, March 10 in Orlando, Fla., defeating Muskingum University and Beloit College.
 
In game one, the Muskingum Fighting Muskies started out with a run in the first inning off an RBI double. However, the Titans went ahead 3-1 with three in the third as freshman first baseman Sarah Platt homered to score seniors Victoria Whitaker and Allie Riordan.
 
The Muskies scored again in the fifth, putting the score at 3-2. IWU was outhit, 8-5.
 
In five innings, Titan winning pitcher Molly McCready (1-1) allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore Jenna Noland worked the final two shutout innings and struck out two.
 
In game two, Noiand was the winning pitcher in relief of Chloe Montgomery.
 
The Titans scored two runs in the first inning as sophomore Kyley McKeown and senior Sara Rogers  scored on run batted in singles from Montgomery and Platt.
 
After Beloit put two runs on the board in the fourth to tie the game, senior shortstop Amanda Fazzari scored an unearned run in the fifth for the 3-2 win. Hitting for Fazzari, Sara Daley had reached base on a shortstop error.
 
The Buccaneers were limited to three hits as Montgomery started and pitched 3 1/3 innings with five walks and four strikeouts. Noland (2-0) had five strikeouts and allowed no hits in the final 3 2/3 innings.
 
What's Next?
The Titans will face Hiram College and Geneva College on Tuesday, March 11 at 9 a.m. ET and 1 p.m. ET, respectively.
