IWU Downs Millikin for CCIW Win, 31-7

DECATUR, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Donavan Laible, forced into a start at quarterback, made the most of his opportunity, throwing for three touchdowns in the Titans' 31-7 win at Millikin on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Seeing his first varsity action at IWU, Laible subbed for senior Tyrell Bolden, who had an emergency appendectomy early Saturday morning, and threw for 215 yards, completing 18 of 31 passes. Bolden himself was a sub for freshman Jack Warner, who continues to be sidelined with mononucleosis.

The Titans, who led 24-0 at halftime and 31-0 after three quarters, improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while Millikin slipped to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the CCIW.

Laible also ran for 49 yards on 15 carries as junior running back Anfernee Roberts led the Titans in rushing with 93 yards on 27 carries.

Junior wide receiver Artie Checchin made 10 catches for 137 yards and one TD and junior wide receiver Andrew Javorka had four grabs for 58 yards and two touchdowns.

The other Titan touchdown came on a fake field goal attempt when sophomore backup quarterback and kick-holder Andrew Iwaszkiewicz threw a 14-yard pass to senior tight end Brady Hails.
Junior Michael Kelley made all of his extra point attempts and connected on a 22-yard field goal midway through the second quarter.

Defensively, IWU was led by sophomore lineman Kyle Venhuizen's 11 total tackles with three quarterback sacks for -16 yards. Junior back Kevin Slawkowski had seven tackles while sophomore linebacker Sean Garvey, senior defensive end John Worley and freshman defensive back Matt Campbell each accounted for six total tackles.

What's Next?
The Titans will host Augustana for the Homecoming game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Tucci Stadium. Augustana is 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the CCIW after a 20-13 home field loss to Wheaton on Oct. 11.
