BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan made a big halftime lead hold up in a 78-68 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win over Augustana at the Shirk Center on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
Illinois Wesleyan improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in the league while Augustana slipped to 4-9 and 0-2 in the CCIW.
IWU trailed 14-4 with 13:30 to play in the first half before going on a 35-8 run and building up a 39-22 lead at halftime. The Vikings outscored the Titans, 46-39, in the second half and got within six points twice, the latest at 56-50 with 7:57 to play could could get no closer.
Illinois Wesleyan forced the Vikings into 29 turnovers while committing 21 and IWU outrebounded Augustana by a 38-37 margin. The Vikings were hurt by poor free throw shooting, connecting on only 7 of 18 charity tosses.
