TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Illinois Wesleyan and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer teams were neck-in-neck offensively, both getting off 15 shots. However, the Titans were able to pull out the victory, 2-1, Wednesday (Sept. 25) evening on the road.
IWU improves to 6-3-1, while the Fightin' Engineers sports a 3-3-2 record.
Rose-Hulman got out of the gates strong, scoring quickly when Drew Belk crossed on the left side to get the ball past IWU goalkeeper
Andrew Reed out front, putting the score at 1-0 with 7:56 on the clock.
Not to be outdone, the Titans responded minutes later when
Drake Leary connected in similar fashion, crossing on the left side and finishing in front, assisted by
Adam Flaugher. The sophomore evened out the score 1-1 in the 12
th minute.
Just before the halftime break, IWU's
Mitch Billimack knocked the ball past the Fightin' Engineers' goalie Drew Miller, assisted by
Jared Krebs, to jump ahead of the home team, 2-1, and secure the Titan win.
Reed earned the win for IWU, tallying six saves in his 90-minutes of playtime. Miller made seven saves in the goal.
IWU will go at it again Wednesday (Oct. 2) against Millikin University at Neis Field in Bloomington, Ill., at 5 p.m.
