ALMA, Mich. -Â After being shutout and trailing 3-0 in the first half, the Illinois Wesleyan football team finished strong and won by a 38-3 score at nonconference Alma (Mich.) on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Titans improved to 2-0 while the Scots fell to 0-2.
Illinois Wesleyan amassed 409 yards of total offense in the game compared to 100 for Alma. IWU got 187 passing yards and 222 rushing yards as the Scots managed 58 on the ground and 42 in the air.
Titan senior quarterback
Rob Gallik was intercepted three times in the first half but finished with 13 completions in 24 attempts for 173 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior
Devonte Jones had 121 yards on 19 carries and senior
T.J. Stinde ran for 55 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries.
Anfernee Roberts rushed for 44 yards on four carries and senior fullback
Sean Conley also had a rushing TD.
Artie Checchin made five catches for 63 yards, senior
Alex Garvey had four receptions for 55 yards and senior
Tate Musselman made two catches for 41 yards and a TD.
Kyle Pfister led the Titans with eight total tackles while
Gary Eppinger made six tackles.
John Worley, linebacker
Connor Klein and
Tim Hollowed each accounted for five tackles. Junior
Tyrell Bolden made Wesleyan's only interception.
"It was truly a game of two halves," IWU head coach
Norm Eash told WJBC Radio after the game. "Championship teams respond, they don't react, and I thought our team did a nice job of responding to the slow start at halftime. It was good to get Stinde some reps as a running back and I thought we did a good job up front opening holes for our runners."
