KENOSHA, Wis. – With a 4-3 loss at Carthage on Saturday (May 4), the Illinois Wesleyan softball team was eliminated from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championship tournament.
♦ Illinois Wesleyan (31-9) will await its postseason fate when tournament pairings are announced at 9 a.m. on Monday (May 6) via
NCAA.com. The CCIW tournament champion receives the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III tournament with regionals May 9-13.
Carthage (30-9) was the winner of the regular season phase of the CCIW but lost 4-0 to Augustana (29-12) in the championship game of the tournament.
♦ The Titans, who outhit the Lady Reds 10-6, did not score until putting up one in the sixth and two in the seventh. IWU left nine on base in the game and had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth that were stranded with no runs scoring.
♦ With one out in the sixth, sophomore second baseman
Hannah Bowen singled and went to second and third on wild pitches. She scored on a single by sophomore first baseman
Chloe Montgomery.
♦ Senior shortstop
Courtney Martin led off the seventh with a single and sophomore leftfielder
Audra James reached on an error. A ground out sent the runners ahead one base and senior third baseman
Emma Clark drove home Martin with a sacrifice fly to center. Junior
Allie Riordan hit a single up the middle to bring home James before Bowen grounded out to end the game.

Alyssa Vorel (14-4) was the losing pitcher, working 4 1/3 innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk. Freshman
Jenna Noland tossed the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out four.
