Softball Ousted from NCAA Regional With Two Saturday Losses

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Illinois Wesleyan softball season ended with a 32-11 record after a pair of losses to conference opponents on Saturday (May 11) at the NCAA Regional at van Steenderen Stadium in Whitewater, Wis.

The Titans were eliminated in a 4-3 loss to fellow College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin member Carthage on Saturday afternoon after losing by a 7-4 score earlier in the day to North Central.

Game Two
The Titans trailed 2-0 in the fourth before tying the score. Senior third baseman Emma Clark walked to lead off the inning, went to second on a hit by junior Allie Riordan and both players advanced on a wild pitch. Hannah Bowen's ground out drove in Clark and a sacrifice fly by Chloe Montgomery brought in Clark.

♦ After falling behind 4-2 in the fourth, IWU got their final run n the fifth. With one out, senior shortstop Courtney Martin singled, went to second on a single by sophomore outfielder Audra James and scored on a single up the middle by senior outfielder Keri Leach.

♦ Riordan finished with two hits while Martin, James, junior Victoria Whitaker and Leach each had one.

♦ Junior lefthander Molly McCready (12-4) was the losing pitcher, surrendering four runs (three earned) in four innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
Senior Alyssa Vorel allowed one hit and struck out one in the final two innings.


Game One
A five-run fifth inning offensive explosion by North Central spelled defeat for Illinois Wesleyan, 7-4, in the second round of the NCAA Regional.

♦ The Titans got on the board early, scoring two in the first. With one out, James reached on an infield single and scored on a double by Leach. After a strikeout, Leach scored on an infield single by Riordan.

♦ Carly Trenahile hit a two-out home run down the leftfield line for a Cardinal run in the second inning and North Central tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the fourth, coming on a single, double and a Titan fielding error.

♦ The Cardinals scored five runs on five hits and two IWU errors in the fifth to gain a 7-2 lead.

♦ A home run by Clark got IWU to within 7-3 in the sixth and Sara Rogers homered to left with one out in the seventh to make it 7-4. The Titans left the bases loaded in the final

♦ Freshman starting pitcher Jenna Noland (5-3) went 4 2/3 innings and allowed seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Vorel struck out two in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
