KENOSHA, Wis. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team needed 12 innings to win game one, 7-6, and then got a 6-5 win in the second game to take a pair at College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin-leading Carthage on Sunday (April 21) in Kenosha, Wis.

The Titans improved to 26-7 overall and 7-3 in conference play while Carthage slipped to 21-7 overall and 8-2 in the CCIW.

Game One
♦ The Titans scored three in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the eighth and 12th. IWU got the gamewinner in the 12th when sophomore Hannah Bowen led off with a single to left and went to second on a sacrifice by Jessica Toth. Sara Daley flied out to get Bowen to third and she scored on a wild pitch.

♦ Trailing 2-0, IWU got three in the fifth as Courtney Martin, Audra James and Keri Leach started the inning with singles and Leach's brought home Martin. After two outs, Bowen singled home James and Leach.

♦ Leach (three RBI) and Bowen (two RBI) each had four hits in the game and James had three.

♦ Senior Alyssa Vorel went the final six innings in game one, allowing one run and striking out four. Molly McCready went the first six and was tabbed for five runs on eight hits with four walks and six strikeouts. She allowed back-to-back homers that tied the game in the bottom of the seventh before giving way to Vorel.

Game Two
♦ Vorel (10-2) pitched all seven innings in game two, allowing five runs on nine hits with four walks and struck out none.

♦ Illinois Wesleyan scored one in the first, three in the third and two in the fifth. In inning one, Martin walked, went to second on a passed ball, to third on a ground out and scored on a throwing error by the pitcher.

♦ In the third, junior Kaity Crane led off with a single and, with one out, Martin singled to leftcenter. James got on by a fielder's choice that allowed pinch-runner Katie Bruins to score and Leach (who had two hits and three more RBI in game two) singled to score Martin and James.

♦ The Titans tacked on two more in the fifth as Martin led off with a double and scored on a James single. Leach's single scored James and IWU had a chance to add more in the inning, loading the bases with only one out, but failed to plate any more runs.
