Titan Win Streak at Four after Sunday Tourney Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team moved to 20 wins with two victories on Sunday at IWU Field in its own tournament. IWU topped Anderson 12-4 in the first game and downed Blackburn 10-1 in the second game.

The Titans are 20-7 while Anderson is 14-11 and Blackburn is 14-9.

Game One
♦  The Titans scored 12 runs on 12 hits and started quickly for the second straight game against the Ravens, plating nine runs in the first inning. Doubles by senior centerfielder Keri Leach, junior designated hitter Allie Riordan, junior catcher Sara Daley and senior shortstop Courtney Martin all brought home runs and sophomore leftfielder Audra James smacked a two-run home run to left center.

♦  Despite hitting a team-leading .471, the homer was James's first extra-base hit in 64 at bats in the 2013 season. She had two doubles in 107 at bats last spring.

♦  Freshman Jenna Noland improved to 4-2, going three innings and allowing two unearned runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. Jessica Toth worked the final three innings and surrendered two runs on two hits with two strikeouts.

Game Two
♦  The Titans banged out 15 hits in scoring 10 runs against the Beavers. IWU got two runs in the first, five in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

♦  Senior outfielder Stephanie Polich had three hits and raised her average to .442 while Clark, Toth and senior Kellye Kohn each had two hits and Kohn drove in a pair of runs with her two doubles. Junior Kaity Crane and Riordan also had two RBI games.

♦  Junior starting pitcher Molly McCready (9-3) struck out four and allowed one hit in three innings and senior Alyssa Vorel pitched the final two frames, allowing one unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts. Lauren Rhodes (5-3) absorbed the loss.

 What's Next?
♦  Illinois Wesleyan is finished with home games until April 27. Weather permitting, the Titans will play at the University of Chicago at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday (April 16) in a makeup of the doubleheader originally scheduled for last week, then travels to face nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday (April 17) at 3:30 p.m.
