BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 20-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team won both of their games Saturday (April 13) in the annual IWU Softball Tournament at IWU Field. In the opener, the Titans beat Washington U. 8-3, while later in the day they slaughtered Anderson 15-0 in five innings.

The Titans improve to 18-7, while Washington U. is now 20-9. Anderson falls to 14-10 after losing to Washington U. in the tournament as well.

Game One (vs. Washington U.)
♦ IWU got on the board early with a two-out double in the first inning by junior Allie Riordan (2-3, 2 RBI) that scored sophomore Audra James. Sophomore Hannah Bowen (2-3, 3 RBI) then singled to score Riordan and Keri Leach, who was on third, to give the Titans a three-run lead. Senior Emma Clark added to the lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run to right field.

♦ The Bears would not go down without a fight, as they were able to cut the Titan lead in half in the top of the fifth. But the Titans came out swinging in the bottom of the inning, answering with four runs of their own on five hits including another RBI double by Riordan.

♦ Junior lefthander Molly McCready (8-3) earned the win by striking out nine in six innings while Kelsey Neal (10-5) is tagged with the loss.

Game Two (vs. Anderson)
♦ After losing the coin toss, IWU came out of the gates swinging, scoring 11 runs in the top half of the first inning. Leach (2-2, 4 RBI) and Clark each had home runs in the opening frame.

♦ The Titans added four more runs in the third to increase the lead to 15-0. Sophomore Chloe Montgomery (4-4, 2 RBI) was another bright spot for IWU in the second game as the Titans finished with a total of 18 hits.

♦ Wesleyan senior Alyssa Vorel (6-2) earned the win as Anderson senior Devon Moorman gets the loss after giving up 11 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.
