BLOOMINGTON, ill. -
Molly McCready scattered five hits and struck out eight in game one and senior
Alyssa Vorel allowed six hits and struck out seven in game two as Illinois Wesleyan took wins by scores of 3-2 and 3-0 over Monmouth in a doubleheader at IWU Field on Friday (March 29).
The No. 3-nationally ranked Titans improved to 10-1 while the Scots slipped to 7-4.
Game One
In the second,
Allie Riordan singled to left and was pinch run for by senior
Stephanie Polich, who stole second.
Hannah Bowen walked and senior third baseman
Emma Clark singled to load the bases.
Sophomore
Chloe Montgomery scored Polich on a sacrifice fly to right. Clark stole second and went to third on a fielding error, allowing Bowen to score. Junior catcher
Kaity Crane delivered a single off the pitcher's leg to bring in Clark.
Monmouth's runs came on homers by Sommer Foster to lead off the game) and Emily Watkins (sixth inning).
Game Two
The Titans scored twice in the fourth and one in the sixth to win game two.
Clark led off the fourth with her third home run of the year. Polich singled and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Jessica Toth, then advanced to third when the base was left unattended and scored on a throwing error by the first baseman.
In the sixth, senior
Katie Bruins led off with a single through the right side and went to second on a single by Sarah Daley. With two outs, freshman
Sara Rogers delivered a single down the leftfield line to plate Bruins.
What's Next?
The Titans play a home doubleheader against DePauw at 1 p.m. Saturday (March 30) in a rescheduling of a game to have been played earlier this spring.
