CHICAGO, Ill. – After trailing by 22 in the first half, the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team mounted a comeback to get a late lead, only to fall short, 92-90, at the University of Chicago on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Illinois Wesleyan is now 4-4 this season while the Maroons improved to 4-3.
The Titans trailed by as many as 22 points (47-25 with 2:33 to play) in the first half and were down 48-32 at the break. IWU was outrebounded 26-12 in the first 20 minutes.
With terrific defensive pressure, Wesleyan went on a 14-2 run in first 2:10 of second half to close to within four at 50-46 with 17:50 to go and battled all the way back to get a 64-64 tie with 9:49 to play after a basket by freshman
Gabrielle Holness.

Colleen McMahon, who had 20 of her game-high 29 points in the second half, gave IWU an 82-80 lead with 4:29 to play. Trailing by two with 18 seconds left, IWU missed two shots to tie or win the game.
The Maroons were forced into 35 turnovers and Wesleyan was guilty of 26. Chicago outrebounded the Titans, 38-27. IWU scored 37 of its 90 points coming off Chicago turnovers. Senior
Lexi Baltes had a school record 12 steals in the game as the Titans had 19 steals as a team.
