Titans Lose 80-63 to Bears in 2013 Midwest Challenge

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – A rough afternoon shooting the ball (31 percent from the field) hurt the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team as it lost by an 80-63 score to No. 6-ranked Washington U. at 2013 Midwest Challenge in Greencastle, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Illinois Wesleyan is 3-3 overall as the Bears improved to 4-0. Washington U. is No. 6 in the latest weekly poll released by USA Today Sports.

IWU scored the first five points of the game and led 9-8 with 13:59 to go in the first half before the Bears went on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to get a 20-9 lead with 9:18 to play before halftime. The Bears led 37-29 at the break and started out with an 18-8 run to get a 55-37 lead with 13:15 to play in the game.

Washington U., whose biggest lead was by 27 (78-51) with 5:22 to play in the game, held a 48-41 lead in rebounding and the Titans committed 24 turnovers to 18 for the Bears.

Washington U. shot 43 free throws to 20 for IWU as the Titans were whistled for 31 fouls compared to 23 for the Bears.

IWU will play in the third place game of the 2013 Midwest Challenge against Illinois College, who lost 86-58 to the tournament's host school, No. 1-ranked DePauw, on Saturday. The Lady Blues have a 3-2 record.
