CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team came from behind in the second half to pull off a 61-54 victory against North Park in Chicago, Ill., Wednesday (Jan. 8) evening.
IWU now sports a 9-5 overall record and a 2-1 standing in the CCIW. The Vikings fall to 11-3, 2-1, after the Titans handed North Park its first conference loss.
• North Park controlled the Titans a majority of the first half, until IWU briefly stole the lead at the 5:18 marker when junior
Katy Seibring completed a layup with the assist from
Melissa Gardner to put the team up, 26-25.
• However, the score alternated a few times, before the Vikings finished atop the Titans at halftime, 34-30.
• In the second, North Park led the way until junior
Colleen McMahon hit a jumper to tie the game, 46-46, at the 8:48 marker. Minutes later, with 5:08 on the clock, The Titans took the lead, 49-48, with a three pointer from
Michelle Bilek, which ignited see saw scoring.
• Within the final minute, though, the Titans were in control after a jumper and a pair of free throws from McMahon to put IWU up by six points with 49 second remaining.
• After three completed free throws near the end for the Titans, IWU was able to secure a seven-point victory over North Park.
• The Titans went 33.9 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from three-point land, and 75 percent from the free throw line.
