IWU Women Eke Past Millikin Late, 72-67

DECATUR, Ill. - Junior Katy Seibring scored a career-high 30 points and the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team held Millikin scoreless the final 4:28 to gain a come-from-behind 72-67 win in Decatur, Ill., on Saturday (Jan. 19).

♦ With their second straight win, the Titans improved to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Big Blue are 0-6 in conference play and 5-11 overall.

♦ Illinois Wesleyan trailed by as many as seven (33-26) with 3:54 to play in the first half but rallied to get a 38-36 lead at the break. The Titans built up a 10-point lead on two occasions in second half, the latest at 52-42 with 15:40 to go. But the Big Blue chipped away and claimed a 67-66 lead with 4:28 to go. That would be Millikin's last points.

♦  A free throw by Taylor Reaber tied the game at 67-67 with 3:31 to go and a basket and free throw by Seibring with 1:55 left gave IWU a 70-67 edge. Free throws in the final 25 seconds by Reaber and Seibring sealed the win.

♦  Millikin outrebounded IWU 40-31 and the Big Blue committed 25 turnovers to 23 for the Titans. Illinois Wesleyan shot 48.1 percent from the field (25 of 52), made 7 of 18 3-pointers (38.9) and hit on only 55.6 percent from the free throw line (15 of 27). Millikin was 25 of 62 from the field (40.3), connected on just 3 of 18 3-point tried (16.7) and made 14 of 18 free throws (77.8).
