Five Straight Wins to Open Season for IWU Men's Soccer

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - For the first time ever, an Illinois Wesleyan men's soccer team has opened the season with five straight wins after a 2-1 win over Rose-Hulman at IWU's Neis Field on Wednesday (Sept. 12).

It is also the first five-game winning streak for the Titans since late in the 2005 season.

All of the scoring was done in the first half as IWU opened with a goal by senior Kyle Gorgol just 1:26 into the contest. Assists on Gorgol's seventh goal of the season were provded by junior Declan Geraghty and senior Danny Kenny.

Senior Tim Griffin scored his first goal of the 2012 campaign at 11:42 as he blasted a kick in the net from inside the box.

Rose-Hulman got within one at 31:51 on the first goal of the year by B.J. Thompson.

The Titans had 18 total shots to four from the Engineers and IWU senior keeper Tim Hegwood was not forced to make a save. IWU also led with 10 shots on goal to one for Rose-Hulman (1-3-2).

Illinois Wesleyan continues its nonconference slate with a match at Principia at 1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 15).
