No. 24 Titans Hand No. 7 Warhawks Two 8-Run Losses

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The No. 24-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team won home nonconference games by scores of 9-1 and 8-0 in a doubleheader against No. 7-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday (April 6).

Illinois Wesleyan improved to 16-3 overall and the Warhawks dropped to 15-3.

In game one, the Titans led by a 2-1 score before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early. Sophomore designated hitter Allie Riordan doubled to left center and pinch-runner Katie Bruins came around to score when the Warhawks' first baseman made a throwing error on an attempted sacrifice bunt by sophomore catcher Sara Daley.
Daley moved to second on a sacrifice by sophomore Jessica Toth and went to third on a base hit by freshman Chloe Montgomery singled to right center.
Junior rightfielder Stephanie Polich singled to move Erin Sweeney to second before junior shortstop Courtney Martin brought home Daley on a sacrifice fly to left.
Freshman leftfielder Audra James singled to score Sweeney and junior centerfielder Keri Leach singled home James and Polich. Junior third baseman Emma Clark ended the game with a two-run home run to left field.

Sophomore Molly McCready (6-2) was the game one winner, going six innings and allowing two hits while striking out 10 and walking three. One of the hits was a line drive home run by Emily Epifanio.

Clark also ended the second game with a two-run home run as the Titans collected 10 hits and out up three runs in the second inning and three more in the sixth to shorten the contest.
Martin, James and Leach all had two-hit games and Clark totaled three RBI in game two.

Junior Alyssa Vorel (5-1) was the winning hurler, striking out five and allowing two hits in five innings.

The Titans play at DePauw in a doubleheader on Saturday (April 7) at 1 p.m. (Eastern).
