BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - On a windy day at the IWU Field, the No. 7-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team eked out a pair of wins over North Park on Sunday (April 22) by scores of 2-1 and 3-1.

The Titans have won eight straight games and are 29-4 overall and 7-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Vikings fell to 20-16 and 3-9 in the league.

IWU scored an unearned run in the first inning of game one as junior shortstop Courtney Martin scored on a wild pitch after leading off with a single, stealing second and going to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman leftfielder Audra James.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the last of the seventh, sophomore first baseman Jessica Toth led off with a triple and, with one out, sophomore second baseman Erin Sweeney bunted home pinch-runner Katie Bruins for the winning run.
Sophomore Molly McCready (11-2) was the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and one run while striking out eight. McCready has 144 strikeouts this year, ranking sixth in an IWU single season, and 250 in her career, which is sixth most in IWU softball history.

IWU went ahead 1-0 in the fourth of game two on hits by sophomore Allie Riordan, Toth and junior pitcher Alyssa Vorel. Wesleyan got another run on three hits in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Stephanie Polich singled and stole second. Martin and James had back to back hits to load the bases for a sacrifice fly RBI from junior centerfielder Keri Leach.
The Titans tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Riordan's second single of the game drove home James, who had reached on an error.
Vorel (9-2) tossed a two-hitter over seven innings, walking two and striking out one.

Illinois Wesleyan hosts Carthage at 3 p.m. on Wednesday (April 25) in a key conference doubleheader.
