BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Junior
Emma Clark hit a home run in each game to tie the school season record and sophomore
Victoria Whitaker drove in four runs to aid her picthing win as the No. 13-ranked Illinois Wesleyan softball team swept a pair of games at home on Sunday (April 15).
The Titans improved to 25-3 with a win over Fontbonne 14-3 and a 5-4 come from behind win over Anderson. It was the IWU softball "Pink Zone" game with money raised from raffles and bake sales going to benefit the local Susan G. Komen Fund.
Emma Clark now has 10 homers and ties the IWU season record held by her (2011) and Valerie Hackett (2007). Clark has 20 career long balls and is one behind Hackett's career mark of 21 (2006-09).
The Titans jumped all over Fontbonne with six runs in the third and five more in the fourth to support the picthing win for sophomore
Molly McCready (11-2), who struck out nine in four innings.
In addition to Clark, who drove in three runs, junior centerfielder
Keri Leach and sophomore
Kaity Crane also delivered home runs against the Griffins. Junior
Katie Bruins also had two runs batted in and catchee
Kellye Kohn delivered an RBI double.
Whitaker (3-0) scattered 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings and got relief help from junior
Alyssa Vorel, who pitched the final 2/3 innings and picked up her second save in as many days.
Whitaker helped herself with a two-run double in the second and a single that drove home two runs in the sixth and gave the Titans a 4-3 lead.
Clark's home run in the seventh provided a two-run cushion at 5-3 before Anderson got a run in the seventh to close to within one. The Ravens left the bases loaded in the last inning.
Illinois Wesleyan hosts Illinois College in a doubleheader with a 3:30 p.m. start time on Tuesday (April 17).
