BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team topped Chicago 6-2 in the second game of a home doubleheader as junior third baseman
Emma Clark had three hits, including a homer. IWU was shut out in game one, 1-0, on Sunday (April 1).
The Titans are 12-3 this season while Chicago is 13-5.
In game two, Illinois Wesleyan scored two runs in each of the first three innings.
In the first, freshman leftfielder
Audra James singled and junior centerfielder
Keri Leach singled With two outs, Clark got both runners home with a hit.
In the second,
Jessica Toth doubled and sophomore
Kaity Crane reached on an error after a sacrifice bunt that scored Toth. Crane went to third on a ground out and scored on a fielding error.
IWU got two more in the third as Clark homered to right field, junior
Katie Bruins singled, Toth walked and sophomore pitcher
Victoria Whitaker singled to load the bases. A single by junior shortstop
Courtney Martin scored Bruins for IWU's sixth run.
Toth (2-0) worked the final four innings in relief of Whitaker, allowing two hits and one run while striking out two and walking two. Whitaker pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
In the first game, Chicago junior righthander Kim Cygan limited IWU to four hits, three from James, and struck out four while walking five. The Titans left nine on base and the Maroons left 12. Sophomore
Molly McCready (4-2) struck out 12 and walked five while allowing six hits and only one unearned run.
