ORLANDO, Fla. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team won their season opener 8-1 over Wisconsin-River Falls at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday (March 11). The second scheduled game against Springfield was rained out.
Junior
Alyssa Vorel picked up the win, going six innings and scattering three hits while striking out seven and walking only two.
Illinois Wesleyan scored three runs in the first inning as
Courtney Martin led off with a walk, stole second and went to third on a sacrifice by
Sara Daley.
Keri Leach singled to left to score Martin. With two outs, sophomore
Allie Riordan singled to left and sophomore
Kaity Crane doubled to right to score Riordan and Leach.
IWU scored a run in the third on a hit by Daley, a walk to Leach and an RBI single by junior
Emma Clark.
Erin Sweeney had a double and Daley had a single to bring home runs in the fourth and the Titans tacked on two more in the sixth with a triple from Leach and a run-scoring error.
Illinois Wesleyan has games on Monday (March 12) against St. Norbert and Transylvania.
