Titans Take Tourney Title; Baltes Named "MVP"

WAVERLY, Iowa - Junior Lexi Baltes scored a career-high 22 points and was named the tournament "Most Valuable Player" as the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team downed Wartburg, 80-62, to win the Wartburg Tournament on Saturday (Dec. 29) in Waverly, Iowa.

•  Both teams are 7-4 after today's game.

•  Baltes and senior Melissa Gardner were both selected to the all-tournament team.

•  The Titans took a 33-27 halftime lead and outscore the Knights 47-35 in the second half.

•  The Titans shot 52.5 percent from the field (31 of 59) and made 12 of 29 3-point efforts (41.4). IWU was 6 of 7 from the free throw line. The Knights finished at 43.1 percent from the field (22 of 51) and made 12 of 18 free throws (66.7). Wartburg was 6 of 23 from beyond the 3-point stripe (26.1).

•  Wartburg outrebounded IWU, 32-30, and committed 26 turnovers compared to 17 for Illinois Wesleyan.
