IWU Women Lose at Home to DePauw in Tourney

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team hit a five minute scoring drought in the first half and saw a 19-17 lead go to a 30-19 deficit and never got untracked in suffering a 75-52 loss to No. 3-ranked DePauw in the Frontier Communications/Titan Tournament at the Shirk Center on Sunday (Nov. 25).

The No. 7-ranked Titans (2-2) were handed their worst loss since falling by 27 points to Carroll University in an NCAA game on March 2, 2007.

Illinois Wesleyan junior Colleen McMahon was the lone Titan in double figure scoring as she had 14. IWU shot 34.6 from the field and made 4 of 15 3-pointers (26.7). The Titans sunk 12 of 15 free throws (80.0).

The Tigers improved to 5-0 as they extended a 19-point halftime lead to a lead as large as 34 at 65-31 with 9:02 to play in the game. Alex Gasaway scored 18 points and Ellie Pearson added 13 for DePauw, who shot 47.4 from the field (27 of 57) and matched IWU with 4 of 15 3-pointers (26.7). DePauw connected on 17 of 21 free throws (81.0) and scored 34 points in the paint.

DePauw held a 36-33 rebound lead as Pearson got a game-high seven. IWU got five rebounds each from McMahon and junior Lexi Baltes.

The Titans are at home again on Wednesday (Nov. 28) for a 6 p.m. showdown against No. 8-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater (3-1).
