CHICAGO, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team sped out to an early 12-2 lead and were never slowed in getting their sixth straight win in an 84-64 decision at North Park in Chicago on Saturday (Jan. 7).
Having 13 players score points in the win, IWU is 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while North Park slipped to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in the league.
The Titans were led by the career-high 21 points of junior
Melissa Gardner while senior
Olivia Lett scored 19 and sophomore
Katy Seibring equaled her career-best with 14 points.
Gardner's previous career-high was 20 points at Wisconsin-Eau Claire earlier this year.
Illinois Wesleyan held a dominating 43-24 rebounding lead, paced by nine from Lett and six from sophomore
Shelby Jackson with five from senior
Brittany Hasselbring, who also contributed a game-high five assists.
IWU, who committed 25 turnovers in the game, shot .527 from the field (29 of 55) and made 12 of 17 3-point shots (.706). IWU also knocked in 14 of 18 free throw tries (.778).
The Vikings shot .411 from the floor (23 of 56) and made five of 15 from beyond the arc (.333) and hit 13 of 20 free throws (.650). North Park was guilty of 15 turnovers. Roxanne Jones and Dana Christensen each scored 14 points with Jones grabbing a team-high six boards.
The Titans, who led 48-29 at halftime, entertain Augustana on Wednesday (Jan. 12) night at 7:30.
