BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior
Olivia Lett scored 23 points as the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team scored a 70-55 win over Wheaton in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener for both teams at the Shirk Center on Wednesday (Jan. 4).
The Titans improved to 8-4 with their fifth straight win while Wheaton fell to 7-5.
Junior
Melissa Gardner, on her 21st birthday, added 12 points, all coming on four 3-pointers.
Illinois Wesleyan shot .386 from the field (27 of 70) and connected on nine of 23 3-pointers (.391) while making seven of nine free throws.
Wheaton was 21 of 57 from the field (.368) and made five of 22 from beyond the arc (.227). The Thunder made just eight of the 16 free throw tries.
The Titans were outrebounded 41-40 and were led by senior
Brittany Hasselbring with five. She and Lett each had five assists.
The Thunder got 16 points from Laura Karsten and 12 from Lauren Graham in the loss.
IWU continues CCIW play Saturday with a 2 p.m. game at North Park.
