No. 25 IWU Women's Hoop Team Wins Ninth Straight Game

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The No. 25-ranked Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team won its ninth straight game as it steamed to a 87-53 win over North Central in Naperville on Wednesday (Jan. 18).

Illinois Wesleyan's record moves to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Cardinals ebbed to 6-10 this season and remained winless in league play in five games.

The Titans got ahead early in the game, shooting 50 percent (17 of 34) from the field and forcing 11 turnovers en route to a 44-31 halftime lead.

Senior Olivia Lett, who had 17 of her game-high 26 points in the first half, also led IWU with a game-high eight rebounds as the Titans were outboarded 35-29.
Juniors Melissa Gardner and Michelle Bilek scored 18 and 14 points each as 11 Titans were in the scoring column.

In the game Illinois Wesleyan shot 52 percent (31 of 60) from the floor and made half (10 of 20) of their 3-pointers while knocking in 15 of 17 free throws (88 percent).

The Cardinals, who committed 30 turnovers to 14 for the Titans, got 10 points from Bobbi Johns. North Central shot 39 percent from the field (19 o 49) and managed just 4 of 16 in 3-point shooting while making 11 of 19 free throws.

The Titans will play at Elmhurst in a battle of first place teams at 5:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 21). The Bluejays are also 5-0 in the league and are 14-2 overall after a 72-62 win at Millikin on Wednesday.
