CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team improved to 18-14 overall and finished 6-8 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin after a sweep at North Park on April 29.
The Titans won 5-0 behind an
Alyssa Vorel three-hitter and took game two, 4-1.
In the first game, Vorel struck out five and walked two in the complete game win.
Senior first baseman
Kris Lee had three hits, including a home run, and three runs batted in and freshman leftfielder
Allie Riordan also had three hits.
Sophomore designated hitter
Annie Lenz had two hits and freshman catcher
Sara Daley also hit safely twice with a double.
In game two, the Titans snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth to earn the victory. Freshman
Molly McCready picked up the pitching win, going the last two hitless innings and striking out four while walking one. Sophomore
Katie Bruins was the starter and lasted five innings, scattering seven hits with one walk.
IWU got their three in the sixth when sophomore shortstop
Emma Clark led off with a walk, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Riordan single to centerfield. After Lee and freshman
Kaity Crane both grounded out, junior third baseman
Kayla Mahoney singled to score pinch runner
Stephanie Polich. McCready reached on an error before Lenz delivered a pinch hit single to score Mahoney.
Illinois Wesleyan will play a nonconference doubleheader at the University of Chicago on Saturday, April 30, beginning at 11 a.m. (note new time).
