Titan Softball Loses Two CCIW Games to Wheaton

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan softball team fell to 16-14 overall and 4-8 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a pair of losses at home to Wheaton on Saturday, April 23.

The Titans lost the opener, 3-2, in eight innings and fell in the nightcap, 3-2. IWU has lost seven straight games and six of those have been by one run.

IWU was limited to five hits in the opener, two from sophomore shortstop Emma Clark, who also scored two runs. Freshman Molly McCready (4-4) took the loss in the circle as she allowed seven hits, one earned run of the three and struck out nine. She now has 83 strikeouts, which ranks No. 15 all-time at IWU and is No. 13 in a single season.

Senior first baseman Kris Lee slugged a two-run home run in the third inning of game two to stake IWU to a 3-2 lead but the Thunder got single runs in the fourth and sixth to earn the 4-3 win.

Sophomore Katie Bruins (4-2) was the losing hurler, allowing nine hits and three earned runs of four while striking out three.

The Thunder improved to 18-13 overall and 5-5 in the league.
